A dedicated philanthropist, Scott Gelbard provides support for a number of causes, including Men for the Cure, an initiative sponsored by the University of Colorado Hospital Foundation. Each year, Men for the Cure hosts a dinner to raise awareness of breast cancer, along with funding to expand care at the Diane O’Connor Thompson Breast Center.
2012 marked the 12th year of the event and brought together more than 550 guests, who heard from keynote speaker Brian Griese, a former Denver Broncos quarterback. Attendees learned about the cutting-edge treatment options offered at the hospital and how their support has improved the facility’s ability to provide the highest level of care possible. Other guest speakers included Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, former Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer, and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.
The event raised more than $178,000, which has facilitated the launch of a mobile mammography van. The hospital hopes to improve access to screenings throughout the greater Denver area with this new project. With early detection, women have many more treatment options available to them.
